Building the skill of futures literacy

A starting point for teams, groups and individuals  to build the skill of “using” possible futures to challenge assumptions, think innovatively, and build resilience and the ability to flex in the face of change.

Futures Literacy Labs

Futures Literacy Labs are highly-interactive workshops that enable individuals and groups to better understand the role of the future in what they see and do in the present.

We use Futures Literacy Labs:

  • as part of futures and foresight workshops, deepening skills and encouraging more in-depth thinking about possible futures and present action
  • as stand-alone events to prompts dialogue and ideas around specific topics and questions of the futures
  • to kickstart change and transformation initiatives
  • to facilitate team-building and “imagineering” events
  • to co-create a shared, desirable future and unite different actors in actions that move them towards a common goal

Origins of Futures Literacy Labs

Our Futures Literacy Labs build on the framework for Futures Thinking and Futures Intelligence developed by UNESCO and futurist, Riel Miller. This framework has been refined through the delivery of over 115 Futures Literacy Labs in 50 countries with public and private stakeholders by UNESCO alone.

Foresight is not about predicting the future. As the saying goes: forewarned is forearmed. Foresight is about identifying possible futures, minimising risk and surprise, spotting opportunities, and working out what role you have in shaping the future.

Who we've helped

Relationships matter to us. We've worked with some brilliant companies and people over the years, many of whom we work with on a regular basis. Some of them have said nice things about our work and our approach.

Suzanne ranks in the top 3% of experts that I have ever met. She is smart, sharp, professional, insightful and delivers great results. I have worked with her as a colleague and on my own business projects. She understands all aspects of and is one of the first people I seek to consult and involve in all my projects. She is outstanding. If you get a chance to work with her, then do.
